question 5: Disappointment

Disappointment is the feeling of dissatisfaction that follows the failure of expectations to manifest. Similar to regret, it differs in that the individual feeling regret focuses primarily on the personal choices that contributed to a poor outcome, while the individual feeling disappointment focuses on the outcome itself. It is something you feel or sense often as aresult of our actions or our friends actions. According to wikipedia, the disappointment theory, pioneered in the mid-1980s by David E. Bell with further development by Graham Loomes and Robert Sugden, revolves around the notion that people contemplating risks are disappointed when the result of the risk is not evaluated as positively as the expected outcome. Disappointment theory has been utilized in examining such diverse decision-making processes as return migration, taxpayer compliance and customer willingness to pay.

Sometimes we disappoint our parents, teachers and peers too. That occurs when we are not performing up to expectations. It may also occur when we did something that they had never expected us to do.
One very good example is when we do not do well for our examinations. We did not do as well as they had expected us to, therefore disappointing them as all parents would want their child to do well in the studies and have bright future.
We may also disappoint them when we mix with the wrong company and end up committing crimes or smoking. They will be disappointed as no parents will want their child to get into trouble with the law.
Disappointment comes in many sizes, and is usually unexpected because if it is expected it would not be considered as a disappointment. The higher our expectations are, the greater our disappointment is. However, the higher our expectation, the greater sense of achievement is.
Everyone will feel disappointed at one point or another. This is because everyone has expectations of themselves or of others. It is impossible not to disappoint anyone as no one is perfect. We are bound to make mistakes. Therefore we should try not to make any unnecessary mistakes.
